On November 26th, 2024 in an 11-1 vote, council voted in favour of the following motion put forward by Coun. Erin Caton:
City Council recognizes the requests of The Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation to the City of Guelph and the support of the Six Nations of the Grand River, as well as the ecological, social, reconciliation and economic benefits of a national urban park in Guelph and move to support in principle Urban Park Guelph and the premise of House of Commons petition E-4593, notwithstanding other public uses or current staff direction.
We would like to recognize and thank everyone who sent letters, registered to delegate, purchased lawn signs and championed this conversation in your circles. Though we still have a long road ahead of us, this immense milestone represents the strength and perseverance of our community. We are tremendously grateful for your efforts and look forward to continuing this work in the New Year.
