Yorklands Green Hub is powered by dedicated volunteers who bring their time, talent, and passion to help build a more sustainable and connected community. Whether you’re interested in education, events, ecology, or behind-the-scenes operations, there’s a role for everyone. Explore the wide range of volunteer opportunities below—each one plays an important part in supporting our mission to transform the former Ontario Reformatory lands into a thriving hub for environmental education and community engagement.

Administration:

Board of Directors

Provides strategic leadership, governance, and oversight for Yorklands Green Hub, guiding the organization’s mission and growth.

Finance Committee

Oversees budgeting, financial reporting, and risk management to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.

Governance Committee

Supports board effectiveness through policy development.

Nominations Committee

Supports board effectiveness through recruitment and board evaluation processes.

Membership Secretary

Maintains membership records, coordinates renewals, and helps foster a strong connection with our members.

Gmail Coordinator

Manages Gmail accounts and access.

Keela Coordinator

Manages YGH’s contact database and CRM system, Keela, ensuring accurate records of donors, members, and volunteers. Supports targeted communications, donation tracking, and reporting to strengthen engagement and fundraising efforts.

Marketing and Promotions:

Social Media Coordinator

Manages YGH’s social media presence across platforms, promoting events, news, and environmental messages.

E-Blast Coordinator

Prepares and distributes regular e-blast updates to our subscribers with news, opportunities, and upcoming events.

YGH Ambassadors

Represent Yorklands at community events, presentations, and outreach opportunities to share our mission.

Website Coordinator

Maintains and updates the Yorklands website, ensuring accurate, timely, and accessible content.

Content Creators

Produce written, visual, or video content to share Yorklands stories, events, and environmental insights.

Engagement:

Volunteer Coordinator

Recruits, organizes, and supports volunteers, helping them find the right role and stay engaged in YGH’s work.

Community Engagement Committee

Builds relationships with local groups and residents to strengthen Yorklands’ community presence and impact.

Fundraising Committee

Develops and implements fundraising strategies, grant applications, and donor engagement efforts.

Events:

Events Coordinator

Plans and oversees community events and special programs, working closely with other volunteers and partners.

Guided Walk Hosts

Lead or assist with interpretive walks to engage the public in Yorklands’ history, ecology, and future vision.

Seedy Saturday Volunteers

Help plan and execute Yorklands Green Hub’s biggest annual event—Seedy Saturday! Volunteers assist with event coordination, setup, vendor support, and engaging the public in seed swapping, sustainable gardening, and community-building activities.

TreeMobile Volunteers

Support native fruit-bearing tree distribution and planting through the annual TreeMobile program.

Stewardship:

Yorklands Stewards

Care for the Yorklands site by maintaining garbage bag locations and fishing line recycling stations.

Turtle Nest Monitors

Monitor and protect turtle nests during nesting season to support local wildlife conservation.

Clean and Green Volunteers

Help keep the Yorklands clean and beautiful by participating in seasonal clean-ups and green space care.

Education:

Environmental Education Advisory Committee

Provides input on environmental education programming and partnerships, supporting curriculum alignment and innovation.

Education Facilitators

Deliver engaging programs such as Ten Tall Trees, Foodsters, and Noticing Nature to youth and school groups.
