Yuan Yao – Artist

As a child Yuan gravitated to art, especially Chinese ink mediums. Yuan graduated from St Mary’s University with a Master of Finance degree, going on to work for one of the big four accounting firms which saw her become a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). She left that to become an entrepreneur to establishing a successful business all while becoming a wife, and the mother of two beautiful children.

Yuan never forgot her childhood passion. Now she creates as much as she can, and you will find her in her modest home studio almost daily, burning the midnight oil often into the early morning. Her rekindled passion often reminds her of her childhood spent in China.

Yuan’s Chinese ink paintings have a kind of abstract aesthetics. She often draws on the bittersweet experiences of her life in Canada. Living in Canada for nearly two decades, Yuan’s painting combines the spiritual characteristics of the East and the West. The overall expression regardless of the medium is the one of calm and spiritual peace.

The beautiful scenery and rich history of Yorklands Green Hub should not be forgotten, Yuan’s rendition of a scene from Yorklands Green Hub captures the beauty and peace of this special community space. Which should remind everyone that time and progress could erase the rich history found here and to some degree the memory of the many people it served and supported.

If we do not protect special community spaces like Yorklands Green Hub they could easily become forgotten forever.
