During this walk\, participants will explore the fields\, forests\, and waterways of Ignatius Jesuit Centre while learning how to identify plants\, animals\, and other living beings using the iNaturalist app. \nWhether you’re new to species identification or already enjoy spending time observing the natural world\, this is a chance to slow down\, pay attention\, and contribute to a growing body of ecological knowledge. DESCRIPTION:  Midwinter River Walks \nFreshwater Conservation Canada is hosting two midwinter walks along the Speed and Eramosa rivers in Guelph\, on February 1st at 10:00 a.m. and February 8th at 10:00 a.m.   \nThese events will include knowledge sharing\, community building\, and opportunities to help rehabilitate the two rivers! \nParticipants can expect to observe nature along wooded trails\, wet meadows\, and ecological restoration sites. Walk leaders will discuss local efforts to manage invasive species and enhance biodiversity. DESCRIPTION:We are inviting all of our volunteers to attend two upcoming Cultural Humility Training sessions facilitated by Chloe Blair: \nPart 1: Wednesday\, October 22 at 7:00 PM (Online)\nPart 2: Wednesday\, October 29 at 7:00 PM (Online) \nImportant: Volunteers must attend Part 1 in order to participate in Part 2. \nThese sessions teach you to actively reflect on yourself\, explore cultural and societal identities and beliefs; bringing a greater awareness of one’s own background and biases; and emphasizing the treating of others with openness\, empathy and respect. A zoom link will be emailed to registered participants closer to the training dates. \nOur focus in particular is on Indigenous peoples and cultures in these sessions as Yorklands is striving to work closely with local Indigenous groups to decolonize our programs and narratives.
