Artspiration: Let Nature be your Muse

We would like to invite you to create and showcase your artwork inspired by a visit to the beautiful heritage site we propose for our public sustainability centre. Walk the wooded paths, lakes, streams, green fields, stone fences and arching bridges of the former Guelph Correctional Centre at York and Watson Roads. Create a work which we will exhibit and offer for sale for you, with a percentage of the proceeds of pieces sold to support our project (80/20 split, artist/YGH).

Our goal as an organization is to create a non-profit community environmental learning centre focused on sustainable urban agriculture, water protection and conservation, renewable energy, and the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage on the site.

Artspiration is designed to put a spotlight on the breadth of artistry in the Guelph community while promoting the
vision of Yorklands Green Hub to re-purpose this unique site for learning for a greener, climate-stable tomorrow.

Entries: You may submit art work in any medium: painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, fiber. Subject matter must be drawn from the site itself and our four themes of sustainable food, water, energy and heritage. Entries will be selected based on relevance to site landscape and organizational themes.

Submissions: Submit photos of works or inquiries to Carol-Ann Betz at 226-820-3426 or by September 25, 2017. Pieces must be ready for hanging, not excessively heavy, and able to fit through a 7’ x 4’ entrance. Selections will be confirmed by September 29, 2017.

Exhibition: All works selected will be exhibited in October at the new 10C Shared Space, located at 42 Carden Street, Guelph, ON. All are invited to the exhibit opening on Friday, October 6th from 7 to 9 pm, as well as the closing gala and silent auction of any donated pieces on Friday, October 27th from 7 to 9pm.

Invite your Muse to help us make Yorklands Green Hub all it can be. We are very grateful for your talent, your creativity and your contribution to a better future for us all.
